Borrowed from Portuguese araribá, from Old Tupi.

Noun[edit]

arariba (countable and uncountable, plural araribas)

  1. Any of the trees of three species in the genus Centrolobium (family Fabaceae), especially, a Brazilian tree (Centrolobium robustum) -- called also zebrawood.
  2. Any of several trees of the genus Simira (syn. Sickingia), usually with heavy dark red wood.
  3. Wood of an arariba tree.
