Etymology[edit]
ar- + lludd (“hindrance, obstacle”), the latter from Proto-Indo-European *lewdʰ- (“to obstruct”). Cognate with Old Breton arlup (“obstacle”) and Sanskrit रुध् (rudh, “to obstruct”).
