auti (put on shoes) +‎ -ėti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *awtei, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ew- (put on, wear). Cognate with Latvian aut, Proto-Slavic *uti (cf. Old Church Slavonic обути (obuti)).
