Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 伯爵, composed of (duke) and (nobility rank), literally "the rank of a count; county". Mainly refers to the European rank. The Chinese rank did not include the suffix (tước), thus simply (). See also công hầu bá tử nam.
