Czech[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Czech bósti, from Proto-Slavic *bosti, Proto-Balto-Slavic *bestei, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰedʰh₂-é-ti.

Pronunciation[edit]

Verb[edit]

bůst impf

  1. (archaic) Alternative form of bodat
    • 1853, Karel Jaromír Erben, “Věštkyně”, in Kytice:
Nalezli Přemysla na poli, an voly bode ostnem, pospíchaje, aby dílo své vykonal.
(please add an English translation of this quotation)

Usage notes[edit]

This verb is archaic. Additionally, the past participle bodl wouldn't be understood in imperfective meaning but rather as the past participle of imperfective bodnout.
