Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish بانمق (banmak, to dip into a fluid), from Proto-Turkic *ban- (to dip). Cognate to Karakhanid [script needed] (manmāq, to dip), Chagatai [script needed] (manmaq, to dip).
