Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Hindustani بے نامی (be nāmī) / बेनामी (benāmī, nameless), defined in the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act of 1988.

Noun[edit]

benami (countable and uncountable, plural benamis)

  1. (South Asia) Property that is transacted under the name of a proxy to conceal the identity of the buyer.
  2. (South Asia) A person owning such property.
