Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-West Germanic *bibungu. Equivalent to bifian +‎ -ung. The -eo- is from back umlaut, which didn't affect bifian because its second syllable lacked a back vowel. The alternative form bifung has its -i- leveled in from bifian.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈbe͜o.funɡ/, [ˈbe͜o.vuŋɡ]

Noun[edit]
