Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Germanic *biskīnaną (“to shine upon”). Equivalent to be- + sċīnan. Cognate with Old Frisian biskīna, Old High German biskīnan, Gothic 𐌱𐌹𐍃𐌺𐌴𐌹𐌽𐌰𐌽 (biskeinan).
