Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بردن بره (birden bire, “all of a sudden”),[1] compound of bir (“a, one, indefinite determiner”) + -den (ablative suffix) + bir + -e (dative suffix), literally “from one to one”.
