  1. (US, historical) The alleged practice of comparing an African-American's skin color to that of a brown paper bag, allowing them certain privileges only if the skin was lighter.

  2. (medicine) The practice of having a patient bring all of their existing medications to an appointment with the doctor, as a way to see what has previously been prescribed and what drug interactions might be occurring.
