• Native Vietnamese speakers do not strictly follow conventional definitions when using cào cào and châu chấu. For example, Tô Hoài mentions anthropomorphized những chị Cào Cào ("Cào Cào ladies") with khuôn mặt trái xoan ("oval-shaped faces") in Chapter 6 of his novel Dế Mèn phiêu lưu ký ("Adventures of a Cricket").
