Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic киновиꙗ (kinovija), from Koine Greek κοινόβιον (koinóbion, monastery, monastic community), from κοινόβιος (koinóbios, communal living), from κοινός (koinós, common, shared) + βίος (bíos, life). Doublet of cenobiu.
