From Proto-Vietic *kuoŋʔ; cognate with Arem ᵑkuəŋˀ. Compare possibly Nyah Kur [Central] ŋkɔ́ɔŋ ("ear of paddy, millet, etc.") and Mon ဒကောၚ် (“ear of grain”).
