Welsh[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Middle Welsh kyuoethawc, from Proto-Brythonic *kuβ̃oɨθọg. By surface analysis, cyfoeth + -og.
Pronunciation[edit]
- (North Wales) IPA(key): /kəˈvɔɨ̯θɔɡ/
- (South Wales) IPA(key): /kəˈvɔi̯θɔɡ/
Adjective[edit]
cyfoethog (feminine singular cyfoethog, plural cyfoethogion, equative cyfoethoced, comparative cyfoethocach, superlative cyfoethocaf)
Usage notes[edit]
Despite having a polysyllabic stem, cyfoethog forms the comparative and superlative respectively with inflectional endings -ach and -a(f), rather than with the determiners mwy and mwya(f).[1]
