Welsh[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle Welsh kyuoethawc, from Proto-Brythonic *kuβ̃oɨθọg. By surface analysis, cyfoeth +‎ -og.

Pronunciation[edit]

Adjective[edit]

cyfoethog (feminine singular cyfoethog, plural cyfoethogion, equative cyfoethoced, comparative cyfoethocach, superlative cyfoethocaf)

  1. wealthy, rich
    Synonyms: cefnog, ariannog

Usage notes[edit]

Despite having a polysyllabic stem, cyfoethog forms the comparative and superlative respectively with inflectional endings -ach and -a(f), rather than with the determiners mwy and mwya(f).[1]
