From Old Polish czcion, czciony +‎ -ka, past passive participle of czyść (to read), from Proto-Slavic *čistì, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *(s)keistéi, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kʷéyt-t ~ *(s)kit-ént, from the root *kʷeyt- (to notice).
