Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *tẹ̄l(b)ü- (mad, stupid).[1] Cognate with Turkish deli, Uzbek telba, Turkmen däli and telbe, Southern Altai тели (teli), Tatar тилбә (tilbä, foolish person), Chuvash тилӗр (tilĕr, become enraged) etc.
