Unknown, probably from inherited from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *daRaq (blood) (Doublet of rah, rāh (blood)), from Proto-Austronesian *-Raq (red), which refers to red collared dove or red turtle dove (Streptopelia tranquebarica). Doublet of harawa and kaḍawa. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
