Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Shortened from von deinetwegen, which can be traced through two developmental routes. One route is from von deinentwegen / von deinent wegen, from von deinen wegen, from Middle High German von dînen wegen, in which wegen was the dative plural of modern-day Weg and dînen was the possessive pronoun in the dative plural.

Another route can be traced from von deintwegen / von deint wegen, from Middle High German von dînt wegen, from von dîn wegen, in which dîn was the genitive pronoun. See more at wegen.
