Etymology[edit]

Probably from de- +‎ laiier, or from a Romanization of the prefix from Gothic 𐌱𐌹𐌻𐌴𐌹𐌱𐌰𐌽 (bileiban), from Proto-Germanic *bilībaną (compare German bleiben, Dutch blijven).
