From Sicilian Medieval Latin doana, dovana (attested from the end of the 12th century), from Andalusian Arabic *duwān, an alteration of the Arabic دِيوَان (dīwān, “administrative office”), borrowed from Persian دیوان (divân, “customs, divan”).
