  1. (obsolete, British, transitive) To finish a beverage; to empty a cup by drinking the contents.

    • 1807, Oliver Goldsmith, The Poems and Essays of Oliver Goldsmith[2], page 23:

  2. (rare, intransitive, by extension from eat out) To drink alcohol in a pub, bar, restaurant or other public establishment.
