Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Uralic *šiŋere. Cognates include Northern Mansi таӈкер (taňker), Erzya чеерь (čejeŕ), Finnish hiiri and Estonian hiir.[1][2] The hardware sense is a semantic loan from English mouse.
