Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finnic *ektä. Cognate with Finnish ehtä (evening get-together) (dialectal), Livvi ehty (evening), Ludian eht (evening) and Veps eht (evening). Possibly doublet of õhtu (from earlier *ektago).
