Etymology[edit]

From Rexglas, a preserving jar produced by REX-Konservenglas-Gesellschaft. The verb is modeled after einkochen or einmachen, common terms for canning food, by replacing -koch- with -rex-. The term is mainly used in Austria, similar to einwecken which is mainly used in Germany.
