Etymology[edit]
From the es- stem of esik (“to happen”, cf. megesik) + -et (noun-forming suffix). Semantic loan from Latin casus, akin to Czech případek, Kashubian przëpôdk, Polish przypadek, Russian припа́док (pripádok), and Silesian przipŏdek.
