Etymology[edit]

Probably a back-formation from eudicots, short for eudicotyledons, from the New Latin coinage eudicotylēdōn, from the Ancient Greek components εὐ- (eu-, good, well) +‎ δι- (di-, two) +‎ κοτυληδών (kotulēdṓn, cup-shaped cavity); equivalent to eu- (true) +‎ dicot.
