Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Shortened from von euretwegen, which can be traced through two developmental routes. One route is from von eurentwegen / von eurent wegen, from von euren wegen, from Middle High German von iuwern wegen, in which wegen was the dative plural of modern-day Weg and iuwern was the possessive pronoun in the dative plural.

Another route can be traced from von euertwegen / von euert wegen, from von euer wegen, from Middle High German von iuwer wegen, in which iuwer was the genitive pronoun. See more at wegen.
