  1. A mobile kitchen used to provision personnel on or near the site of a military operation.
    • 1929, Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms, Folio Society, published 2008, page 53:
      I went back to the major's dugout and he said the field kitchen would be along and the drivers could come and get their stew.
