Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *gal-ānja, cognate to Old High German quellan (to well up, pour out, stream from) and Sanskrit गलति (gálati, to drip, to drop, to ooze). Ultimately from Latin jānua (door, entrance).[1]
