From Old French graal, grael, from Medieval Latin gradālis (“cup”), of unclear origin. Possibly from Vulgar Latin *crātālis, from *crātus, from Ancient Greek κρᾱτήρ (krātḗr, “mixing bowl, wassail bowl”).
