Italian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Hypercorrection from guadagnare. The first hypercorrection accounts for the /mmj/ > /ɲɲ/ shift (eg: vendémmia > vendégna), and the second hypercorrection accounts for the /mb/ > /mm/ shift (eg: piómbo > piómmo), both shifts very characteristic of the Central-South. Comparable to (and perhaps by analogy of) the form cagnà(re) whence the standard cambiare.

Verb[edit]

guadambiàre (first-person singular present guadàmbio, first-person singular past historic guadambiài, past participle guadambiàto, auxiliary avére)

  1. (dialectal, central-southern Italy) Alternative form of guadagnare
