Etymology[edit]

A Paleo-Balkan loanword from the same origin as Byzantine Greek γούνα (goúna, coarse garment), Latin gunna (leather garment). From the later comes the late Itallian borrowing гуне́ла (gunéla, skirt, gonella) (dialectal, attested after 17-18 century).
