gun time (plural gun times)

  1. The time it takes to finish a race from when the starter's gun (or other signal) is sounded until crossing the finish line, irrespective of when the competitor actually starts.

Usage notes[edit]

  • "Gun time" is generally the only officially recognised time, as opposed to chip time.
