Etymology[edit]

From Armenian հալավ (halav), which is widespread in Armenian dialects and is recorded in Shamakhi and Karabakh among other places.[1][2] For halavərkir x̂iyic (to be on one's period) compare the sense development of Armenian հալավ (halav) and the expression on the rag.
