German[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Univerbation of heute zu Tage.
Pronunciation[edit]
Adverb[edit]
heutzutage
- nowadays, these days (in the present era; in the world as it is today)
Usage notes[edit]
Unlike English "nowadays" or "these days", German heutzutage does not also carry the sense of "recently"/"lately", i.e. it is not used to describe recent developments or recently adopted habits as in: "He's grumpy these days." For that sense, use in letzter Zeit or a construct of that sort.
