Etymology[edit]
A noa-name for the Devil. From hin, an archaic definite article, and håle, an originally dialectal pronunciation of hårde (“hard (evil) one”). The dialectal change from rd > l can also be seen in e.g. utböling, vålnad, tvi vale etc.
