hoopstick (plural hoopsticks)

  1. A light framing member for a carriage or wagon hood or roof.
    • 1952 January, “British Railways Standard Wagons”, in Railway Magazine, page 61:
      The floor is of 2⅜-in. boards, and the roof of ⅞-in. boards covered with roofing canvas is laid on hardwood hoopsticks bolted to the steel carlines.
  2. A stick used for rolling a child's play hoop.
