Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Swedish i aftonse, from i aftons with an added -e of unclear meaning, but cf. i morse and dialectal forms i vintrase for i vintras and nunnase for nunnas (just, quite recently). The development was likely i aftonse > i aftese > i aftse > i afse. See afton and -s (adverbial suffix).

Pronunciation[edit]
