Borrowed from Late Latin hydromantis, from Ancient Greek ὑδρόμαντις (hudrómantis), from ὑδρο- (hudro-, “hydro-, water”) + grc (“seer, prophet”) + μάντις (mántis). By surface analysis, idro- + -mante.
