Etymology[edit]

From French imprimerie, from imprimer (to print, to imprint) + -erie (-ery), from im- (in-) + primer (to print). Equivalent to imprint +‎ -ery.

  1. (countable, archaic) Synonym of printer, printing house, &c., a self-employed printer or printing establishment.
    France's National Imprimery dates back to the Renaissance but now mostly prints ID cards.

  3. (countable, obsolete) Synonym of print, a single instance of printing.
