Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

inte (not) +‎ sant (true)

Phrase[edit]

inte sant

  1. Used to ask for agreement with (or confirmation of) a statement; isn't it?, right?, isn't that so?, etc.
    – Jag tror han begick mordet. – Men han var ju på andra sidan jorden, inte sant?
    – I think he committed the murder. – But he was on the other side of the world, right?
    – Du fick svart. – Det passar ju bäst så, inte sant?
    – You got black. – That's the most fitting, isn't it? (from Antonius Block playing chess against Death in The Seventh Seal)

Usage notes[edit]

Indicates somewhat stronger expectation that the listener will agree compared to eller hur (and so can function as a kind of reminder), though the difference is subtle.
