Etymology[edit]

From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (izle-, to trace), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *īŕ (trace). See modern Turkish word iz. Cognate with Kazakh іздеу (ızdeu), Southern Altai истеер (isteer, to watch).
