Estonian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Proto-Finno-Permic *jakša, whence Erzya якшамо (jakšamo) and Moksha якшама (jakšama, cold, frost). This root can be seen in Proto-Finnic *jahtudak (to cool down) (with the suffix *-tudak (modern Estonian -tuma)), whence modern Estonian jahtuma.
