Afrikaans[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From earlier joue, from Dutch (de/het) jouwe. The -n- was interfixed in the hiatus on the model of the pronouns myne (mine) and syne (his), whose -n- is etymological, but which accord with the Afrikaans determiners my and sy (like joune with jou).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Pronoun[edit]

joune

  1. yours; thine (that or those of you (singular))
Hierdie is my hemp en daardie is joune.
This is my shirt and that one is yours.

Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From jouwe, the standard form. The -n- was interfixed in the hiatus on the model of the pronouns mijne (mine) and zijn(e) (his), where the -n- is etymological.

Determiner[edit]

joune

  1. Nonstandard form of jouwe.
Mijn pen is leeg, kan ik de joune lenen?
My pen is empty, can I borrow yours?

Usage notes[edit]
