From Old Swedish kirvil, kyrvil, from Middle Low German kervele, kervelde, from Latin caerefolium, from Ancient Greek χαιρέφυλλον (khairéphullon), from χαίρω (khaírō, to enjoy) +‎ φύλλον (phúllon, leaf).
