Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish قاتلانمق (katılanmak, katlanmak), cognate to Karakhanid [script needed] (katıglanmaq). Cognate to Nogai [script needed] (katlan-), Kipchak [script needed] (katılan-, katlan-), Cuman-Kipchak [script needed] (katulan-).[1] Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *katïg (firm, strong).
