Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Danish kavring, from older kaghring, related to Old Norse kǫgurr.[1] Also claimed to come from Russian коври́га (kovríga).[2] Compare Faroese karvingur and (dialectal) Swedish kavring.

kavring m (definite singular kavringen, indefinite plural kavringar, definite plural kavringane)

  1. a rusk (a bun that’s cut in half after the first cooking and then cooked a second time)
  2. a potato flatbread
