Etymology[edit]
From Javanese klenthéng (ꦏ꧀ꦭꦼꦤ꧀ꦛꦺꦁ),
- From Hokkien 觀音亭/观音亭, compound of 觀音/观音 (koan-im, “Guanyin”) + 亭 (têng, “pavilion”).
- Affixed ke- + *lenteng, from Hokkien 禮堂/礼堂 (lé-tn̂g, “assembly hall”, literally “rite hall”), a type of Confucian temple.
