From Dutch correctie, from Middle Dutch correctie, from Middle French correction, from Latin corrēctiō, from corrigere 'to correct, rectify', itself from com- (intensifying prefix, a form of con-) + regere "to lead straight, rule" (from a Proto-Indo-European base *reg- "to move in a straight line; direct, rule, guide").
